Dr Srinivasa was recently invited to speak to colleagues at the Goodfellow Symposium for the second consecutive year. This is the largest annual medical conference for General Practitioners (GPs) in New Zealand and was held in Auckland. Dr Srinivasa was asked to present on two different topics.
His first talk educated colleagues on common types of hernias including groin (inguinal) hernias, belly-button (umbilical/ paraumbilical) hernias and hernias that occur after previous surgery (incisional hernia). It covered the importance of prompt diagnosis, optimising comorbidities and tailored treatment options for surgery including open, laparoscopic and robotic hernia surgery
The second presentation educated colleagues on incidentally discovered liver and pancreas lesions. This presentation covered common diagnoses such as liver haemangiomas, adenomas and pancreatic cysts such as IPMNs. It gave GPs a framework to assess patients with these conditions in primary care and to take safety precautions when determining whom to refer and how to minimise any delays in diagnosing liver and pancreas cancer.
