Dr Srinivasa was recently invited to the annual New Zealand Association of General Surgeons Annual Scientific Meeting to take part in the annual debate which was the final presentation of this three-day meeting. He was asked to argue the affirmative position in the debate titled, “Can we afford complex cancer ops, much less robotic ops?”
The premise for providing complex cancer care and robotic surgery were the clinical benefits for patients, the cost-effectiveness of treatments when earlier return to regular activities is factored in as well as the necessity of providing excellent healthcare as an advanced economy with a small, finite workforce.
